It's Free Pattern Friday!

Today's design show how a little of something good can make a project even better. We're talking about neons! They're everywhere right now, and the trend is expected to continue. Today's free pattern, the Blocks Jacket designed by Amy Gunderson in Uptown Worsted, uses neons and bright shades as colorful pops within a neutral framework. It's a fun jacket that doesn't overwhelm the kid wearing it. And it would be so easy to customize with whatever colors you like.

This project is really the perfect marriage of pattern and yarn. Uptown Worsted (100g/180yds) is machine washable, with a new array of neons that brighten up any project. Uptown Worsted and the entire Uptown family of yarns are 100% anti-pilling acrylic, making them great for kid and baby garments.

The construction on this jacket is very unusual. It's knit in one piece up the body to the underarms and then bound off. Then the sleeves are knit from the cuffs to the center back and joined. The collar is worked separately and attached. It's an interesting project to knit and a fun jacket to wear.

We'd love to see what you do to personalize this jacket and make it your own. Happy knitting!
